PSOS Partners With Community Foundation to Help Families
February 11, 2025
Perrysburg Spirit of Serving, Inc. (PSOS), a local non-profit, has contributed $30,000 to the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation in an effort to continue its mission of helping local families in need.
“Through the years our fundraising efforts have really grown,” says Jim Pollock, PSOS organizer. “But as our families have grown older and become busy with their lives, it has become more difficult for us to get volunteers for the home repair work and to find projects to fund. Our partnership with the Rotary Foundation will ensure that we can provide relief to families while fostering long-term support.”
The $30,000 contribution to the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation was established as a donor-advised fund, which allows PSOS to determine where and how the funds are distributed.
“PSOS came to the realization they needed help to grow and distribute their funds, and our Foundation can assist them with that,” says Jack Sculfort, Executive Director of the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation. “Our portfolios are professionally managed, and we have connections to help distribute the funds to non-profit organizations whose mission is to help local families in need.”
The PSOS History
Seventeen years ago, a group of Perrysburg dads created a family touch football event to create lasting memories. The resulting Perrysburg Turkey Bowl became an annual Thanksgiving weekend event and eventually morphed into a fundraising opportunity.
“We would literally stick a bucket on a table for Turkey Bowl families to donate $20 to play,” says Pollock. “We were all friends having participated in mission trips in Ohio and nearby states. Eventually, we asked ourselves why not help Perrysburg families with the funds we raise?”
In 2017, Perrysburg Spirit of Serving, Inc. (PSOS) was formed as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and the group began writing grants to help generate more funds. “Over the years, we built a lot of accessibility ramps and did many local home repairs,” says Pollock. “Our most recent project involved rehabbing a house in Toledo. We also contributed to Perrysburg Christians United (PCU) and the Perrysburg Heights Community Association.”
